Make Do and Mend
As part of self-improvement 2011, I am trying to “Make Do and Mend.” I want to take better care of my things, make less waste, and accumulate less clutter.
Today I am cleaning the house, making piles for Goodwill and consignment. I have mended holes, sewn lost buttons, cleaned and weather-sealed nine pairs of shoes, fixed several broken jewelry clasps, restrung fallen beads, attached feathers, and glued cracks in antlers. It feels almost as good as shopping for new things! With as much vintage as I love buying, this should be a regular practice.
I’m playing some of my resolutions close to my chest, like wishes you don’t speak after birthday candles. But. The common denominator is to be more assertive about going after what I want. 2010 is about taking it to a new level.
Oh, and being a badass.
