Spring always finds me obsessed with flowers.
It is a dream of mine to reach a level of income where I can have fresh flowers in the house all the time…without feeling guilty. They are a luxury purchase right now, but oh how they feel like a necessity!
My apartment overlooks a downtown community garden and the roses are in bloom. This time of year when the wind blows you can smell their sweet scent in the kitchen. It is one of my favorite things about my home: the scent of roses wafting in the windows on a sunny afternoon.
The pictures above are some bits from my apartment, which I am in the process of redecorating (on top of everything else I’m trying to be better at). My favorite, simple changes were painting the back of the bookcase pink, and hanging my favorite dress on display. These things make me happy.

Bon Weekend!

We had a short day at work heading into the long weekend, so I got to spend the sunny and crisp afternoon running errands and walking about. I took my Valentine’s bouquet home (I’m still in awe) and picked up a package (pink wellies!) while making my way through busy North Beach. I must admit I was spoiled rotten on Tuesday: 100 flickering candles, home cooked dinner, scattered rose petals, and a tiny Ginger Rogers…suffice it to say that the phrase “head over heels” is more than accurate. Tomorrow the boy and I are going to the Ferry Building farmer’s market and taking our spoils off on an adventure. If I can get the Polaroid land camera we bought on the street up and running, you’ll see what we find soon.

I am feeling like a very lucky girl today and I hope your weekend is amazing!

Anonymous asked: Do you have any ideas for cute Valentines Day decorations?

I don’t usually decorate too much for Valentine’s Day, which is interesting since the color palette is so naturally appealing to me. I tend to stay in the realm of cards and baked goods. With decor, I think it depends what sort of setting you’d like: a tête-à-tête with your one and only? A tea party for your best girlfriends? Just a little dazzle for yourself? That being said, here are some of my favorite picks from around the web…

Geronimo Balloons!

I have been head over heels about Geronimo for a few months now, and I knew they’d do something amazing for Valentine’s day. Like Confetti System, their gorgeous couture-style party supplies are out of my price range, but seem like a really awesome project for a committed DIY-er. I’ve been deciding when I want to tackle them. Large balloons can be found online and at party stores. Add strips of fabric, paper honeycomb balls, mylar fringe, pom-poms, and other fun items to the tails and you’ve got a hit!

Garland, Garland, Garland

Garlands are essential for any celebration. As they are easy to make and affordable to purchase, I may eventually end up living with hanging bits up year-round. For these festive pieces look at: one, two, three.

Sweet Straws

You know I love a paper straw, and these captured my heart when I stumbled upon them a while ago. Olivia of A Field Journal really took it up a notch with these vintage-inspired scrap pieces. For more pictures and printables go here. Add a pretty pink bottle of soda and sip away.

Lovely Tables

From girly-girl whimsy to intimately romantic, there’s a ton to be done here. This is where you can get sucked into wedding blogs for hours at a time. The Knotty Bride showed off a gorgeous Marie Antoinette-worthy table, and there’s more paper-lantern fun from A Field Journal.

All of the Flowers

All of them. No such thing as too many. I have a predilection for the softness of peonies and renunculas, but have a field day with whatever you like! Fill bud vases, vintage tins, mason jars, teacups, and hurricane glasses. Put them on cupcakes, in drinks, in your hair, or on your lapel. Make them from paper or fabric or paint!

I hope your Valentine’s day is lovely. There is an abundance of love in this world–-not just the romantic kind. Celebrate your many loves with abandon and eat a few sweet treats for me! You can check out more of my finds and ideas on my Valentine’s Pinterest board.

Pretty enamored with these new party shoes.

Pretty little messes.
I’m cleaning up tinsel and stray shoes, playing with one of my most coveted gifts, and feeling generally lovely. I do love bright and quiet afternoons.

Making Merry
Trimming the tree, wrapping packages, setting a vintage-style jello mold, and prepping myself for tonight’s Mad Men Christmas cocktail party.  I suggest firing up the Frank Sinatra station on Pandora for any and all of these activities.

Gifts of Christmas Past
Last year’s presents were bright and fun. I’m trying to come up with a new scheme this year…but my packaging mind is all over the place! Usually the supplies have been gathered and the plan is ready by now. I’ve done purple and python print, hot pink and leopard, gold and houndstooth, kraft paper tied with buttons and pom poms…what next?

Rhymes with Sherilyn
Today’s outfit brought to you by a supposed preference of gentlemen, beauty marks, the “nifty” decade, and One Eyed Jack’s. I’m loving everything fifties and polka-dotted right now!

Birthday, Birthday
I did a terrible job of capturing my birthday festivities this year outside of a flurry of iPhone photos. It was a birthday that managed to stretch on for a week (not that I’m complaining) in a pink, frosted, champagne-drenched series of days.
From being surprised with this song on a portable record player on my porch, to cupcakes on my desk at work, to an outdoor family dinner, to Breakfast at Tiffany’s, to singing about inappropriate confetti at a rooftop bar, to so much more…I am really lucky that I got to celebrate with so many awesome people that I love so much. Thank you everyone for making 25 so special!
