NYE 2012
We filled a room at the Hotel des Arts downtown with confetti, color, champagne, and friends. Each room at the hotel is decorated by a different artist, and we stayed in an awesome suite painted by Shepard Fairy and Tricia Choi…which meant really cool floor-to-ceiling Obey wheat pastings and crazy color explosions. Multicolored crepe streamers composed a rainbow wall, giant balloons and mylar stars floated about, and we toasted until the bottles were empty.
Some of us continued the climb up Nob Hill to a masquerade party, where we rang in 2012 under colored balloon ribbons, pizza and ostrich feathers. It was a lovely way to send off 2011, and I’m excited to see what adventures the new year will bring.
The video starts with the first moments of 2011 and backtracks through the last day of 2010. Davin, Joey and I didn’t have any plans, so we spent the day romping around San Francisco. We agreed that it was the best time any of us had in 2010, and since I had all of this delightful footage they asked me to make a video for their two piece band. I plan to upload a higher res version when vimeo quits treating me like a punk. Enjoy!

NYE Moodboard 2011 (click for a very large view)
I finally went through the (ever-growing) folder of inspiration on my desktop. I really like the idea of introducing pops of fun bright colors into this year’s NYE festivities. Pinks, reds, and golds have been floating through my head. Polka dots too. I’ve been very inspired by the fun, liberated color in the windows at Kate Spade and Betsey Johnson. I’m quite certain this will have an influence on my Christmas wrapping, as there are spools of bright polka dot ribbon stacked all over my desk.
NYE 2010 Video
Sade and I start planning our New Year’s Eve outfits pretty much the day after Halloween. The last couple of celebrations have been some of the most amazing nights filled with glitter and champagne. I don’t even know how to top them.
Last year we made Maison Michel ears, Gagz crowns, Confetti System party hats, and hand-cut glitter confetti. From scratch. Like insane art-school kids. We had confetti parties everywhere we went, broke furniture, and danced the night away. Last year was all about glitter, rebel-black, gagz, and no pants. I don’t even know how to begin to do something better for 2011.
(but we’ll be damned if we don’t try)
