rahm-bow asked: Hi, I was looking for a DIY antler head band on the web, and I came across your awesome post that you made a year ago. I'm not sure if you remember, but I think it was for a costume? I was curious to know if after you formed the antler shape from the foil did you use paper mache on it, or did you purchase paper clay and like cover the foil with that?

The deer costume! From here, here and here.

Oh how I love that outfit! I formed the antlers with the foil until I got a shape I was happy with, then I did a layer of masking tape to hold it in place. I used paper clay to build the outer layer, did a few rounds of sanding for smoothness, and then a double coat of white paint. Though the lightest option–I probably spent 10 hours researching on the web for to be sure–I still recommend having a way to secure the headband as it will be weighty (mine had a strap around the back that was, in turn, pinned into my updo). I also recommend drilling the antlers into the headband to be safe. Good luck and happy crafting!
