Peacock ! (click for large)
This was my Halloween costume last year: a peacock. I kinda loved it. Hours of glue-gunning made a self-standing tail studded with rhinestones. Silver glitter shoes, feather eyelashes, an AA romper, and a feathered bra later and it was complete. I loved the tiny wings and show-girl feel. I drew a silver beak on my nose, and my butt was covered in downy black feathers. I hit everyone in the face at Halloween parties.
I love so many of the feelings and activities of Halloween, but there is nothing like taking a costume idea and crafting it start to finish. If I have my way, I will never wear store-bought costumes again! Seeing all my creative friends make their outfits from scratch is super fun and inspiring. At one point in my apartment last week there was rhinestone gluing, weave-cutting, jeans-bleaching, giraffe makeup testing, fabric-making, sculpting, telephones being painted and dresses being dyed all at once.
My goal this time around was to make something equal or better to last year. I think I have, though it is smaller in size and will (hopefully) hit a lot less people in the face.
